Sin City

Sin City isn't an interpretation of Frank Miller's graphic novels - it's a thorough translation. The visual style is the big sell for seeing it, earning perhaps unfair comparisons to the recent Sky Captain film. The other elements, the characters, acting, and plot, are more engaging with Sin City, but you really come out of it remembering particular shots - facial expressions and scenery that define the bloody and depraved world the film depicts. In essence, you come out of it feeling like you've just read a comic.

The Animation Show

Had a chance to see The Animation Show last night. It started strongly, with some really funny stuff including  Bill Plympton's Guard Dog, Jen Drummond's F.E.D.S, and Peter Cornwell's Ward 13. The latter half was technically stunning but tended to lack narrative, such as The Meaning of Life and The Man Without a Shadow. I found myself more impressed by the work that went into them rather than the story they told. Overall, though, you get exposure to a number of  styles and techniques of the highest quality.
